Calem had a recent child well checkup and remains in the 75th percentile for his height (3 feet 2 inches tall) and the 50th percentile for his weight (31 lbs). I asked when it is typical for a boy to be potty trained and the pediatrician replied its often linked to how verbal a child is. I guess that makes sense, but given Calem remains in speech therapy I'm a little doubtful he'll be potty trained anytime soon. In order to enter the "3's" class he has be potty trained by fall, and ideally by this summer so he can participate in summer camp.
Calem had a good time celebrating his birthday with my family. He received another set of blocks and more train tracks, so he and his sister spend lots of time playing with these new gifts. Calem enjoys dancing and singing and being read to. We are curious to know what his preschool teachers will say about him later this month at his first parent-teacher conference.
There are many times that he and his sister can play quietly and happily, but there are certainly times when the same toy/book/blanket/ you name it is desired by both kids. Calem makes it known when he needs his diaper changed, he starts acting out, bugging his sister. There are times he does ask to be changed (much calmer approach than the former).
Calem loves playing soccer! He still occasionally picks up his cardboard violin, but he isn't fond of any redirection, so he prefers to learn by mimicking others. We're thinking of starting group classes this summer if he's ready for it. We're looking forward to returning to the beach this summer, Calem loved being in the water and playing in the sand.
He still takes naps on occasion, but we still wake him up by 4 pm even if he barely fell asleep 30 minutes earlier. He typically sleeps well at night--but will sometimes wake up around 4 or 5 AMasking for water or from a nightmare wanting a hug.
We are very lucky to have such a sweet, thoughtful (albeit occasionally naughty) boy
