Okay, so he is actually 17 months and a half by now. As Jason pointed out, I'm late getting this post up!
Calem is still not walking. He is standing for a second or two on his own, and continues to use Clara's small chair as a walker to help him get around the living room when no other furniture is available to cruise along on. He can easily crawl up the stairs and is aware to be careful going down the stairs (although he is a little more adventurous on carpeted stairs and will simply slide down to the bottom on his belly).
He enjoys trying to use a fork and spoon (although has yet to master holding these properly). He loves to draw (every so often a marker may end up in his mouth). He enjoys scribbling alongside his sister, as well as applying stickers to paper. He love to brush his teeth. Interestingly, he likes to try to hold the violin and bow (a little big for him as it belongs to his sister), and watch other children play the violin. We let him play with it, but have to closely supervise as he can get a little too rough. He remains a picky eater, but is willing to use a bib (if we let him chose between two bibs) and if he's done and has to wait too long to get out of his high chair, he takes off his socks in protest!
He is not really talking, his favorite sound is "GAH." He does say "Da" for Jason (in fact, he prefers Jason for most things, especially for putting him to sleep now that I'm trying not to nurse him back to sleep). He is good at communicating via pointing and can follow most 1 step directions and some 2 part directions.
He continues to wake up multiple times throughout the night, usually around midnight, 3 AM and 6 AM. The last waking I give in and nurse him, buying myself an extra 30 minutes of sleep, but this is a bad habit that needs to stop. I don't want to be the cause of cavities!!
I'm anxious to see what the doctor will say about his gross motor abilities and his limited vocabulary. We'll find out at his 18 month well child check.
