Clara is 31 months old!

Just as we had hoped, since starting pre-school a couple weeks ago
(she attends two mornings per week) Clara's language skills have
improved. In fact, Clara has picked up some new vocabulary terms
including "Hey guys" "pick booger" (complete with demonstration of
putting her finger in her nose) and "mine." She comes home with
little art projects that seem to have had adult intervention (because
we doubt she drew a perfect face on the jack-o-lantern) and a big\smile on her face. The only downside? Trying to wake her for school!

(I imagine it's similar to waking a teenager when they're not
ready--she rolls over, covers her head and pretends Jason didn't just
open the window blinds). We try to get her to bed early, but she loves
to stay up til at least 8 PM--even when we start the bedtime routine
at 6:30 PM. Her wake up time is 7:30 AM or earlier on school days,
and at least 8:30 (or later) on non-school days. She rarely naps at
all, but is still given quiet time.

Clara has become a big fan of playgrounds. Her favorite part seems to
be the slides (she's warming up to the swings too). We encourage her
to walk as much as possible (rather than be strolled or carried in the
ergo) in hopes that she'll wear herself out and sleep earlier at night
(she definitely falls asleep faster at night on days she's had an
extra walk). Last week we headed to the doctor for her pre-school
physical (and maybe a flu shot) and all the extra reading (her current
favorite book "Elmo goes to the Doctor") has her less anxious at the
visit. In fact, even though she had a little blood drawn she didn't
cry (she did wimper after getting her flu shot but she was so brave
the entire visit!!). She is 36 and a half inches tall, (68th
percentile) (her weight was in the 60th percentile).

Next week will be Halloween, Clara will be dressed as a doctor (we are
really maximizing that costume :) She doesn't know that Halloween
involves candy, and we won't mention it to her either!out $5.10
