Over the past month she has adjusted to the new room (at first she'd
wake up in the middle of the night which she doesn't usually do) and
the new environment. We haven't had the chance to take her out of the
house very much, besides her daily strolls. If any of you are
familiar with the Silver Spring area, we'd love to hear your
recommendations on activities for toddlers! We usually try to have
her in one activity per week (like gym or swimming) so she can be
around other kids. We found out this area doesn't do "story hour"
(which the Baltimore libraries did) and we haven't been successful in
finding a non-denominational church in the area yet either (so her
interaction with kids her age is almost zilch :(
Despite this, Clara has kept herself very busy all day long. She is
always on the move. If she is quiet for too long, we know to be
concerned she is up to something. Jason has taught her to play hide
and seek, sometimes I call her name looking for her and she is in a
corner giggling, waiting for me to find her. I love her laugh.
She loves to "read" and the local library has lots of new choices (so
many more Spanish board books). She is able to fall asleep without
much of a fuss, after story time she continues to read on her own then
eventually falls asleep (on top of her books!). She is learning to
kick a soccer ball (with the World Cup craze that just passed she was
surrounded by it quite a bit!). She still falls many times a day, so
I think actually playing soccer is a ways off :)
Since Jason spends more time with her, he has gotten to know some of
her stange habits. For instance, after eating she always wants to
spend some quality time hugging her blanket (which she is very
attached to and takes pretty much every where). I've noticed she is
starting to like stuffed animals more, so much so that she likes to
bring them to the table while she is eating (which is not a good idea
when it's so hard to wash the stains!). Speaking of eating, she
pretty much refuses to wear a bib. We bought her one which was like a
smock with holes for the arms and neck, but she was pretty upset about
it and demanded to have it taken off. So instead, all of her onesies
are stained with food. I wasn't able to keep up with applying stain
remover to every single spot so I kinda gave up and now she just has
all sorts of extra colors on her shirts. Oh well!
This is the month we'll try to get her off bottled milk again. Jason
thinks she is more ready this time around. We'll see about that!
Finally, her favorite words remain "what's that?" followed by da-da,
"Isaac" (my dad's name) and on very rare occasions "ma ma." Not any
change from last month but she seems to be understanding more this
month (finally points correctly to body parts rather than to her mouth
for everything :)She seems to be taller and maybe even thinner than last month (maybe all that activity?) but she eats very well so we're waiting for the "picky eater" phase to hit.
