Not sure if its separation anxiety, but getting Calem to sleep on his
own is an ongoing issue. Most nights he doesn't want to fall asleep on
his own, rather, I nurse him to sleep (around 8 PM) then wake him up
again and put him in his crib. He usually will go back to sleep but
then wakes up around midnight sometimes expecting to eat, sometimes I
try to let him cry it out. If he doesn't wake up at midnight (or even
when he does) he is up again between 5 and 6 AM, again expecting to
eat. I think it's still too early to be hungry and if I'm not too
tired will let him cry it out, if I'm exhausted (like last night) will
bring him to bed where he remains the rest of the morning til about
7:30 (latest 9:15 AM). He'd probably sleep a little better if he
wasn't sharing a room with his sister whose bedtime is closer to 8:30
(making it hard for him to sleep in the same room until she's asleep
too). Altogether, he sleeps a fair amount, a short nap in the morning, a longer mid-day nap, and
another short nap in the late afternoon. When he's sleeping alone, he almost always
ends up on his stomach (but wakes up quite upset since he seems to
have difficulty turning back on his back).
He is sitting up without support a little better now. He doesn't get
into a sitting position on his own but can remain upright for several
seconds (maybe even an entire minute) before falling backwards.
His appetite is great. He now has 2 teeth peeking in and using them
(and his gummy mouth) to chew up cheerios (the few he manages to get
into his mouth). We use a Food Mill (best $10 spent yet) to grind his
food so he eats whatever we have for dinner (minus any peanuts or eggs
which we're holding off til he turns a year old to introduce). He
enjoys ravioli, lasagna, beans and rice, hummus, avacado, every kind
of fruit so far, and the vegetables he's tried (mostly the orange
kind, sweet potatoes, carrots, etc). He has a Yo Baby Yogurt with
dinner and a little bit of water out of cup (we know he's not suppose
to have very much water at this age). He is still nursing (but with
those 2 teeth he sometimes confuses me with a teething ring and grins
when I say "ow!"
In his spare time (not much left between eating and sleeping) he
enjoys being read to, banging objects together, kicking his feet,
playing peek a boo, smiling for attention, and laughing with his
sister. His dislikes are having objects taken away from him (our new
rule is "no taking things from others without asking first" in
addition to our other rule "no throwing anything inside the house").
