Calem at 5 months
Calem keeps busy these days examining his hands and passing a toy from one hand to the other, then eventually into his mouth. He loves playing with whichever toy his sister allows him to borrow. He loves
to sit in his bouncer seat and kick his legs to make the seat bounce. He also enjoys listening to books and looking at pictures.
He will wake in the morning anytime between 7 and 8 AM, get some tummy
time and play in the "gym" then get his morning nap ideally around 9
AM to 11 AM, realistically it takes quite a while to fall asleep and
the actual sleeping time is brief unless he is being carried (like in
the Ergo carrier). We're still trying to get him to sleep on his own
since last month he had a stuffy/runny nose for a couple of weeks so
we didn't press the issue but now we're behind in the sleep training.
Bad habits include letting him nurse/feed to fall asleep, sneaking him
into his crib when he is asleep, and letting him sleep with us to
allow him to sleep longer. He takes another nap around 1 PM and
another in the late afternoon (around 5 pm, just a cat nap so he can
stay awake til I get home around 7 PM then go to bed for the evening).
He wakes up around 9:30, 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30. Turns out he is
probably just at the end of his sleep cycle and needs to learn to go
back to sleep without being fed.
Starting in a couple of weeks he'll be sharing the room with his
sister so we are hoping they'll be on a similar schedule, which means
getting him to sleep better at night. Time for the sleep training
(aka ferberizing) to begin! (Unless I wuss out again because for some
reason I just can't stand to let him cry.)
